Skills I learned while Managing an Online Masters.
I come from an Engineering background with work experience of around three years in the Edtech Sector. I am currently working at upGrad as the most promising Edtech Company in India, now trying to expand its vision of Upskilling the workforce. My brief duties at upGrad revolve around managing the University Relations for the assigned program, designing and driving the complete learner lifecycle and learning experience. In a nutshell, I look after the Program and Delivery Management.
Here are a few key learnings from my role at upGrad till now:
1.Prioritization
Multi-tasking is a myth !! Your ability to prioritize between tasks and deliver would be the differentiating factor in your actual and desired performance. Journaling the to-do list, giving the right amount of time to a job, identifying the critical functions, highlighting the urgent tasks is the prioritization mechanism that I have been following. It has been conducive to me.
2.Collaboration
My day-to-day job involves a lot of cross-team collaboration. All these teams handle the different functions of the learning experience. Working together with a collaborative effort towards the same end goal helped me become a better team player and better at my profession by being more open to understanding different approaches and ideas.
3.Targeted Approach towards solutions
I have learned a thorough understanding of the problem statement, breaking down the problem statement, and approaching the solution part by part is what I have learned from my seniors. Having an immediate solution to the problem, doing the Root Cause Analysis, and proposing a long-term solution to the problem is the Approach that has been significant learning for me to date.
4.Product Knowledge
Having the complete knowledge of the product which the company is offering to the end-users is crucial. It will help you connect with the company’s mission and vision related to your core values. Alongside this, it is essential to know the end-to-end functionalities of the tools which the end-user uses, for instance, a Learning Management System for edtech companies. It will help you contribute to improvements in the user journey, which will enhance the overall learning experience for the users.
5.Data-Driven Approach
All the decisions being taken are backed by a thorough analysis and interpretation of the data. This helps to serve the end-user better and ensures that the informed decisions and a correct strategy are being adopted and implemented.
Learning can emerge as spontaneous order at the edge of chaos. All said and done, and I am still trying to get better at them.
